Description

These classic cheesy meatball subs are packed with juicy meatballs, rich marinara sauce, and gooey melted cheese, all on soft, toasted sub rolls. A perfect comfort food sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or beef/pork mix

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)

  • 4 sub rolls

  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella

  • Optional: provolone, Parmesan, parsley

Instructions

  • Mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, Parmesan, oregano, salt, and pepper. Form into meatballs.

  • Brown meatballs in olive oil until golden. Remove and set aside.

  • Sauté onion and garlic, add crushed tomatoes, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer 10 minutes.

  • Return meatballs to sauce and simmer 10 more minutes.

  • Slice rolls, add meatballs and sauce, top with cheese.

  • Bake at 375°F for 10–12 minutes or until cheese melts.

  • Serve hot with garnish of choice.

Notes

Use store-bought meatballs for ease. Add red pepper flakes for spice. Toast rolls first to prevent sogginess.
