This char siu chicken is sweet, savory, and beautifully glazed in a classic Chinese BBQ-style marinade. It’s juicy, flavorful, and easy to make at home.
Ingredients

1½ to 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs

3 tbsp hoisin sauce

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp honey or brown sugar

1 tbsp rice vinegar or Shaoxing wine

2 garlic cloves, minced

½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder

Optional: Red food coloring

Garnish: Sesame seeds, green onions
Instructions

Whisk all marinade ingredients in a bowl.

Add chicken and marinate 1 hour or overnight.

Roast at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 min, or grill 5–7 min per side.

Broil or char in final minutes for a caramelized finish.

Rest, slice, garnish, and serve hot.
Notes
Serve with rice or noodles. For more sauce, simmer extra marinade separately. Air fryer method works well too.
